Rami Malek Says He's Out On Karaoke After Bohemian Rhapsody
Many karaoke fans have their go-to songs; songs that they love and have fun with or that they know they can perform relatively well. After seeing Bohemian Rhapsody, you have to imagine that Rami Malek's go-to songs are now all Queen and he could absolutely slay at karaoke. That might be the case, but Rami Malek says that he is out on karaoke after the film, minus one performance, as he explained:
In Japan, they love karaoke and I went with the members of our version of Queen, and we dressed up in animal onesies and we did 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in the shape of the original music video. It was filmed by someone and I'm sure someone will probably get drunk and throw it out there into the ether. [Now,] I'm not big on karaoke after doing Bohemian Rhapsody for six months.
On the surface, you might think that if Rami Malek is a karaoke person, he would be absolutely stoked to know that he can bring the house down now, but just because he would probably be great at it doesn't mean he wants to do it. As he told W Magazine, he's pretty much done with karaoke for the moment after Bohemian Rhapsody.
It's hard to blame Rami Malek either. After working on the film for half a year, where he had to sing Queen songs and be Freddie Mercury, he's probably just bored of it and worn out. He was, in many ways, doing a kind of karaoke with take after take for the performances in the film, so he has already put it a lifetime's worth of Queen karaoke.
It's a shame, because Rami Malek completely embodied Freddie Mercury and his stage presence in the film, and I imagine that would translate to a killer karaoke performance. He now has a permanent life skill, and it would probably be incredible to see him show up on stage at a random karaoke bar and perform. Maybe he'll come around on doing it after more time has passed since the Bohemian Rhapsody production.
Rami Malek may be out on karaoke for the time being, but it turns out that he did take part in something of a secret performance. Rami Malek, along with his Bohemian Rhapsody co-stars, dressed up and did karaoke to 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in Japan. That sounds amazing and must have been a real treat for those in attendance.
Unfortunately, it is currently not available for public consumption. So we'll all have to hope that, as Rami Malek said, the person with the video gets drunk and throws it out into the ether for us to enjoy. It's bound to happen eventually and we'll keep you updated if it does.
If you want to enjoy more of Rami Malek's performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, you're in luck. The home video release of the massive hit, which arrives in February, will have the complete Live Aid performance from the film, including two songs that were not shown in the theatrical cut.
