MCU Will Eventually Introduce Kamala Khan, A.K.A. Ms. Marvel

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War! But I mean, come on, you've seen it right?

In the 10 year history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there has arguably never been a character teed up better to make a huge splash in their debut than Captain Marvel. The post-credits scene to Avengers: Infinity War essentially positioned her as the potential savior to a group of heroes and a universe that just suffered an incalculable defeat. So needless to say, fans are very excited to see Brie Larson in Captain Marvel next year. But Carol Danvers isn't the only Marvel hero sporting the Marvel name, and we now know that Captain Marvel will pave the way for the eventual introduction of Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan. Marvel studios head honcho Kevin Feige heralded her coming in the video below.

Wow, that is a pretty big revelation and kind of unexpected. Marvel tends to want to publicly focus on what's coming in the near future and not tip their hand too much about what's in the works long term. Yet in this Twitter video, Kevin Feige outright says that Ms. Marvel is definitely in the works and that, naturally, Captain Marvel allows for the introduction of that character. The current chapter of the MCU is ending, with heroes presumably leaving in one way or another in Avengers 4. As such, it only makes sense that more heroes would be on deck to take their place and it sounds like ladies sporting the Marvel name will be a sizable part of that.

For those unfamiliar, or those just wondering exactly how many heroes sport the name Marvel, it's a complicated situation. While the Marvel name has a convoluted history across multiple comic book universes and Carol Danvers herself was also once Ms. Marvel, the Kamala Khan version is much more straightforward. The Kamala Khan Ms. Marvel debuted in 2013, and she has quickly become a fan favorite in the years since.

Kamala Khan is a Muslim Pakistani-American immigrant who is a huge fan of the Avengers and particularly, Carol Danvers. She actually carries the Inhuman gene and undergoes Terrigenesis (although who knows if she'll still be an Inhuman in the MCU at this point). When she emerges she is a polymorph, able to stretch and manipulate her body in any way she needs. She can even fully shapeshift and she has some healing abilities. Kamala Khan takes up the Ms. Marvel name in honor of her favorite hero.

A few years back it seemed like a Ms. Marvel TV series might be in the works but it never came to fruition. And while I suppose that Kamala Khan showing up on a TV show is still possible, my guess is that she'll be in the proper cinematic universe in some way. The timing is perfect to start working towards Ms. Marvel, too. Captain Marvel is on the way and Black Panther just showed Marvel and Disney how lucrative on screen representation can be. Ms. Marvel has that same potential by giving a group that rarely sees themselves on screen in positive roles, a superhero to root for.

Before fans can get Kamala Khan, we get to see who she idolizes. Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019.

The Predator Has Screened, Here's What People Are Saying

People have been waiting for a solid Predator sequel for a long time. Is Shane Black's new effort finally the one fans have been looking for? The Predator screened last night as part of the Toronto International Film Festival so attendees were the first to get a glimpse at this new generation of the alien hunter. Is this movie the one you've been waiting for? Maybe? Reviews are actually quite varied, but while the film clearly isn't perfect, it's not without its charms either. CinemaBlend's own Sean O'Connell was in the audience last night and he says it's the best Predator sequel so far, and that isn't only because all the other ones sucked.

The Predator knows its role, acting as a fun, hyper-violent and often hilarious throwback to 1980s action horror, with clever kills and a memorable band of misfit anti-heroes. And while the bar by previous installments is ridiculously low, I don't think it oversteps to call this movie the best Predator sequel, and the only one that's close in tone to the Schwarzenegger-led jungle boogie that launched this franchise back in 1987.

If there is one common, and unexpected, thread running through the TIFF reactions to The Predator, it's that the movie is actually quite funny. Chris Evangelista with Slashfilm also recognizes the humor, and while he feels it may veer into the realm of stupid on occasion, it seems that overall that's not necessarily a bad thing.

While many responses are of the sort that would classify The Predator as, at the very least, "fun," not every response is quite as forgiving. Dread Central finds that some of the ideas in the new movie just don't work at all, though it doesn't think these will be deal-breakers for most viewers.

While most seem capable of finding something worthy of praise in The Predator, that certainly not the case for all. Variety finds the movie simply too busy, with so much going on that anything worthwhile simply gets lost, if it as ever there to begin with.

It's an exhaustingly energetic mess in which a coherent plot and credible characters aren't even on the cluttered menu.

So, in the final analysis, is The Predator good? As is often the case, that will depend on the viewer. If you're looking for an over the top spectacle with Shane Black's trademark humor combined with impressive deaths at the hands of a killer alien, then there's probably something to enjoy here. If you were expecting a dark, violent, horror movie, you may need to adjust those expectations.

5 Major Questions We Have About Captain Marvel After That Trailer

The trailer for Captain Marvel finally debuted yesterday and as you might expect, it was full of amazing moments. Our first look at the 1990s-set action film gave us glimpses of younger S.H.I.E.L.D agents Nick Fury and Phil Coulson, the Starforce, Captain Marvel's incredible power and a Skrull in a granny skin suit taking a punch to the face. The trailer didn't give us much in the way of plot, nor did it show us much of Captain Marvel's space exploits, but what it did do was leave us wanting more.

The Captain Marvel trailer also did a great job of showing us two minutes worth of footage, while telling us almost nothing. There are a couple of things in the trailer that add something of a mysterious quality to proceedings and leave us with more questions than we had going in. Clues to some of these questions can be found in the comics, but you never know what sort of changes Marvel will make when adapting things for the big screen. So here are a few of the biggest questions we have about Captain Marvel after seeing the trailer.

What Happened To Her Memory?Probably the most intriguing story revelation from the Captain Marvel trailer is that in the beginning, the hero will not remember her life on Earth. As with many things, this has roots in the comics. After her exposure to radiation from the Psyche-Magnitron machine, her mind split in two: Carol Danvers and Ms. Marvel. She would transform into Ms. Marvel when needed, and would awake after the fighting was done with no memory of what happened. In the film, it seems that they are retconning this and doing an amnesia-type story instead of the dual personalities. But based on the shot in the trailer where she has energy surging into her temples, it seems like her memory loss is not only the product of her transformation. There may be a deliberate attempt to keep her from remembering who she is. She doesn't appear to be struggling though, so perhaps she is being deceived about that procedure's true purpose.

How Does She Get Her Powers?Like many non-mutant Marvel heroes, Carol Danvers wasn't born with her powers, and only gained them after an accident. In the comics, Carol is exposed to radiation from the Psyche-Magnitron machine, and her DNA is altered to that of a half-Kree/half-human hybrid when Mar-Vell (Jude Law) shields her from some of the radiation. This gives Carol her powers and judging by the trailer for Captain Marvel, it looks like an energy explosion of some nature will again be involved but the circumstances of this may be different. The Captain Marvel origin story has a lot of parallels to Hal Jordan's Green Lantern, so the film will be avoiding some of those similarities. Thus it seems likely that she doesn't have a previous relationship with Mar-Vell when she gains her powers. So it remains to be seen what exactly happens that puts her in this situation and if her exposure is an accident or intentional.

Why Is She Back On Earth?We know that Carol Danvers has been gone from Earth, but just as interesting is why she's back. The trailer for Captain Marvel starts with a scene that I imagine is towards the very beginning of the film, with Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) blown from her ship and crashing into a Blockbuster Video store. Given the nature of that arrival, I'm guessing that this homecoming wasn't planned. And her puzzled and lost look as she walks around Los Angeles makes it seem like not only did she not plan on coming here, but she may not be entirely sure where here is. Maybe she was on a Starforce mission, pursuing the Skrulls across the universe, and she ran afoul of a Skrull ship hiding in Earth's orbit? It could also be possible that she was sent specifically to Earth to root out the Skrull threat. Like many great heroes, it looks like she will be thrust into a situation that she wasn't expecting, and will have to triumph over the odds.

How Do Captain Marvel And Nick Fury Cross Paths?We've gotten used to Nick Fury meeting with new heroes when we first meet them and it will be no different in Captain Marvel. But we don't yet know exactly how they cross paths. Nick Fury is working for S.H.I.E.L.D. and he believes his best days are behind him and he's ready to hang it up. Yet, as you hear in the trailer, that changes when he meets Carol Danvers. So how does this meeting happen? Does someone call the authorities about a woman in weird clothes that fell from the sky and is exhibiting strange behavior? At least judging by the trailer, unlike Thor's first meeting with S.H.I.E.L.D., Captain Marvel doesn't appear to be immediately arrested. That makes me think that maybe S.H.I.E.L.D. is investigating something seemingly routine, only for it to be anything but and Captain Marvel shows up, exposing the Skrulls in their midst and awakening Nick Fury to what is out there.

What Are The Skrulls Planning On Earth?Captain Marvel is finally bringing one of the most notable cosmic races to the MCU with the Skrulls. These shape-shifting aliens have been at war with the Kree for ages but we don't yet know what exactly they are planning on Earth. The presence of the Skrulls makes you think of the Secret Invasion storyline and it's possible that this film plants the seeds for that to show up in a future Avengers movie. The trailer makes it clear that the Skrulls are on Earth and in disguise, but the question is why and what's the end goal. It could be that Earth is just a base of operations for both sides in their never-ending conflict. We know that Ben Mendelsohn's Skrull leader Talos has infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D., so maybe he is hoping to somehow use his position there for invasion purposes or to further the Skrull cause against the Kree.





After seeing the first trailer, so much has been revealed about Captain Marvel. Although, the more we learn, the more questions we have. It's safe to say that all Marvel movie fans were doing their happy dance on Tuesday when the first trailer for Captain Marvel finally dropped.

Clark Gregg Shares A Captain Marvel Set Photo That Will Give Marvel Fans All The Feels

At this point, we already know that 2019 will be a big year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only will Phase 3 come to a conclusion with the premiere of Avengers 4, but Brie Larson's Carol Danvers will also take center stage in a solo movie of her very own with the release of Captain Marvel. There's obviously a lot of anticipation leading up to the 1990s-set Marvel outing, particularly with regards to the return of Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson. Now it looks like Gregg has finally arrived on the set of the film, and he has taken to social media to tease a heartfelt reunion with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury. Check out Gregg's post, below.

I swear I'm not crying. You're crying. We don't get much information from that photo, which makes sense considering Marvel's characteristically tight-lipped nature, but it clearly promises that Clark Gregg and Samuel L. Jackson will reunite as Phil Coulson and Nick Fury, respectively. As the film will take place in the 1990s (long before Coulson's apparent demise in The Avengers), the general assumption is that the film will show the earlier years of their relationship and lay out how they came to be friends during their time as agents. New job, old friends, and all of the Marvel-ous emotion.

Of course, despite Clark Gregg's Instagram post, we still have to wait to learn some key information about Captain Marvel. For starters, we still don't know precisely how Coulson, Nick Fury, and S.H.I.E.L.D will factor into the film's story. Moreover, we also don't yet know what Nick Fury will look like in the movie, aside from the fact that he will apparently have two eyes.

It is also worth noting that Clark Gregg is not the only seemingly deceased, longtime member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe who will return in Captain Marvel. In addition to the fan-favorite side character/Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D hero, it was also recently announced that Guardians of the Galaxy actor Lee Pace would return to the MCU as Ronan the Accuser to help flesh out the film's adaptation of the Kree-Skrull war. With all of these new and old elements coming together, it's becoming increasingly apparent that Captain Marvel may be a Marvel film unlike any that we have seen before.

Clark Gregg will return to the film side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Captain Marvel premieres next year on March 8, 2019. Until then, make sure to watch out for all of the major Marvel heroes when the MCU comes together for Avengers: Infinity War, which will debut in theaters on April 27.
